Murder of okada rider causes tension in Jos

There was palpable tension in Jos, at the weekend, following the gruesome murder of a commercial motorcyclist  by some unknown persons at Eto Baba in Jos North Local Government Area of the state.

The corpse of the okada rider identified as Kamilu Yahaya, was discovered in a stream in Eto Baba.

It was learnt that youths in Hausa-Fulani settlements in Jos North Local Government staged protests demanding for justice.

The prompt intervention of security agencies prevented the situation from degenerating into a full blown crisis as youths from two sides of the divide had started mobilising for a showdown.

As of the time of filing this report, the sound of siren still rent the air to scare the youth while men of the STF had positioned themselves in strategic areas of the troubled local government area.

As a result of the tension created by the incident within Jos, people tactically withdrew from the streets.

Efforts to speak with the STF spokesperson, Captain Charles Ekeocha, and the Police Public Relations Officer, Jacob Apev, proved abortive.

However, the chairman of the rescue committee, Jama’tu Nasril Islam,  Alhaji Sabo Shu’aibu, who supervised the collection of the corpse from the Jos University Teaching Hospital Mortuary where the police had deposited it said the victim sustained deep machete cuts on the right side of the face and other sensitive parts of his body.

He said the police had commenced full investigation into the incident with the aim of bringing the perpetrators of the dastardly act to book.

The remains of the deceased was buried on Saturday amidst tight security by the combined team of  policemen and men of the Special Task Force at about 2:45p.m.
