Navy effects major shake-up
Armed Forces, Latest Politics Tuesday, March 15th, 2011The Nigerian Navy, yesterday, effected a major shake-up in its hierarchy with the redeployment of nine Rear Admirals, eight Navy Commodores and appointment of new Flag Officers Commanding, FOCs.
The new FOCs are Rear Admiral Austin Oyagha, formerly Chief Staff Officer, Eastern Naval Command, now Flag Officer Commanding Logistics Command. He takes over from Rear Admiral Nyanga; Rear Admiral JA Akinwale, formerly Chief of Administration at Naval Headquarters is now Flag Officer Commanding Training Command.
Rear Admiral JOO Olutoyin, formerly Chief Staff Officer, Western Naval Command is now Chief of Training and Operations, Naval Headquarters; Rear Admiral JB Oladimeji, formerly FOC Naval Training Command is now Chief of Policy and Plans, NHQ; Rear Admiral IE Ibas, formerly Chief Staff Officer, Naval Training Command is now Chief of Administration at NHQ.
Rear Admiral Dele Ezeoba, formerly Deputy Commandant, Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji is now Chief of Administration, Defence Headquarters; Rear Admiral E Ijioma, formerly Commandant, Naval Engineering College, Sapele is now Chief of Naval Engineering at NHQ. Rear Admiral GE Okoi, formerly Chief Staff Officer, Logistics Command, is now Deputy Commandant, Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji; Rear Admiral BM Mshelia is the new Chairman, Military Pensions Board.
Affected 8 Commodores
The eight Commodores affected and their new appointments are Commodore OE Ekwe, Commandant, Nigerian Navy Engineering College, Sapele; Commodore PA Agba is the new Chief Staff Officer, Eastern Naval Command Calabar; Commodore KB Ati-John is the new Chief Staff Officer, Western Naval Command, Lagos; Commodore BA Egbedina is the new Chief Staff Officer, Logistics Command, Oghara.
Others are Commodore PO Oraka, Chief Staff Officer, Naval Training Command, Lagos; Commodore DS Audu, Commander, Central Pay Office, Lagos; Commodore C Goon, Commanding Officer, Nigerian Navy Finance & Logistics School, Owerrinta; and Surgeon Commodore LM Adams, Commanding Officer & Consultant Surgeon, Nigerian Navy Hospital, Calabar.
According to a statement signed by Commodore K. Aliyu, Director of Naval Information, the exercise is as a result of vacancies created by the voluntary retirement of some senior officers who have served the Nigeria Navy meritoriously. The handing and taking over is expected to be completed by the last week of this month.
