‘Nigerian workers to smile soon over salaries’
Latest Politics Wednesday, March 8th, 2017He made the disclosure in Ibadan on Wednesday at a Merit Award ceremony organised by the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Ibadan National station. Bamgbose stated that RATTAWU and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) were working assiduously on the media salary scale, adding that efforts had reached advanced stage on the issue. ‘‘The two issues: the Media Salary Structure (MSS) and the review of workers’ salary are in the pipeline. ‘‘We have started the work on MSS before I left as RATTAWU President and the unions are still working seriously on it. ‘‘The main issue is that, we don’t want to make noise until we get it. ‘‘I can assure you that work is going on seriously on it and I am very sure something good is coming,’’ he said.
He further stated that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), under the leadership of Mr Ayuba Wabba, was also not leaving any stone unturned in achieving better pay for the Nigerian workers. Bamgbose said that the salary earned by workers in the country was not worth it, considering the present economic situation in the country. ‘‘Apart from foreign exchange, there are several other factors that have rendered the salary earned by workers; it is nothing to write home about. ‘‘I am sure something good will come out of the efforts too and workers will smile,’’ he said. He further said government was aware that the salary earned by workers in the country today was nothing to write home about, noting that they were just enduring the hardship. ‘‘I know government too is not happy with the situation and it is working with the NLC to bring smiles to the faces of workers in the country.’’
