Obagoal leads Birmingham’s assault against Wigan

Birmingham looks up to Super Eagles’ ‘Weapon of Mass Destruction’, Obafemi Martins, to bury Wigan Athletic and further dash the team’s hope of maintaining a grip on the English elite division. Blues, as the Birmingham side is fondly called, could have been well above the relegation mark, but for the 2-3 loss it suffered in the hands of Bolton Wanderers at St Andrews last weekend.

It, therefore, has a duty to keep up the fight against the fall. And beating Wigan at away is one of those critical assignments it is condemned to undertake this evening.
Part of Birmingham’s duty falls on Charton Cole and Craig Gardener, who are the team’s leading marksmen.

Birmingham has not won in three outings after beating Arsenal to clinch the Carling Cup trophy. But it needs to rise from the ashes of its last defeat to tune the victor’s song despite having a poor away record. Martins, who has not scored a Premiership goal for the team, might be fired by the urge to earn his first league goal of the season.

Indeed, Wigan needs to do the extraordinary to come away with a decent result despite playing at home. Burdened by the weight of three defeats in a row, the Lactics must fight like true Trojans to survive.
The onus is on the team’s Colombian import, Hugo Rodallega to call the tune of the game and possibly give the homer’s faithful something to cheer.
