Late Fannami Funeral Led by Imam Idaini of Borno, Adam Asil Kyari  in Maiduguri

The remains of slain governorship candidate of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP)  in Borno state, Alhaji  Modu Fannami Gubio, younger brother of Governor Ali Modu Shreriff, Alhaji Goni Sheriff and five others were  Saturday   committed to mother earth amid wailing by relatives and well wishers including Governor Sheriff

The burial of the  deceased was also held amid tight security provided by regular and combat ready mobile policemen  in Maiduguri ,the state capital.

Before  Gubio who was killed along with six others by unknown assailants in Maiduguri on Friday was buried according to Islamic rites, the corpse of the slain politician was blessed by the Imam Idain of Borno who led other top Islamic clerics in the marathon prayer session at the Gwange cemetery in Maiduguri at about 9 am.

The immediate younger brother of the governor, Goni Modu Sheriff also hacked down by assassins’ bullets in the dark Friday killing in Maiduguri was buried thereafter at about 10 am after his remain was prayed for by the  Islamic clerics that  earlier prayed for Gubio.    It was an emotional filled occasion as many were in tears including  Governor  Sheriff who could not control his tears .

The governor could not be consoled as he was visibly shaking at the site of the corpses of Goni, his kid brother and Gubio, his  anointed successor who is also  his cousin.

The tears at the graveyard where the remains of Gubio and Goni were committed to mother earth  was a child’s play compared to the tears shed at the residence of the governor’s father, Galadima Modu Sheriff where women in their scores burst into tears.

Some of the top dignitaries that were present at the funeral include the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Garbai Al-amin Ibn El-kanemi, Emir of Dikwa, Alhaji Masta II, Emir of Biu, Alhaji Umar Mustapha Aliyu, Emir of Bama, Senator representing Borno North, Senator Maina Ma’aji Lawan, BornoState executive council members and members of the State House of Assembly.

As at the time of filling this report, the state government was yet to neither address the press nor issue any official statement. But normalcy seems to have returned to Maiduguri , the state capital which was in pandemonium all through Friday.

Though peace seems to have returned but discussion among people in town is on the insecurity in town as there is still apprehension even as many would not want to comment to the press on the issue of recent killings in the state.

The State Police Commissioner, Mohammed Abubakar , who said  the police would not leave any stone unturned in getting the assassins to face the full wrath of the law could not say if any arrest has been made.

Meanwhile a visit to some hospitals in the state revealed that many persons are on admission as a result of injuries sustained from the stampede in many parts of the town during the attack on Friday.

Some of those on admission, it was revealed to ThisDay were as a result of shock suffered during the attack as many thought it was a war situation as sounds of gun rented the air.
