Headlines Saturday, July 23rd, 2011
The police in Anambra State are investigating the death of six members of a family from Uli, Anambra State.
The family members were found dead Saturday morning in their home, with no survivor to tell the story of what happened.
While locals believed that they died of food poisoning, the Anambra State police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Emeka Chukwuemeka, said the police were investigating the incident.
There have been reports of entire families being wiped out overnight by carbon monoxide poison released by generator fumes into poorly ventilated homes in Nigeria where public power supply is not reliable.
Among those found dead, according to sources, include the mother of the family, her three children, a maid and the maid’s mother, who visited the family about two days before the poisoned meal.
One of the dead children was said to be a teacher at the village school.
The father, Mr. Umuabuchi was said to have travelled outside the town and so did not partake in the poisoned meal and became the only survivor of the family.
