Politicians responsible for high rate of robbery in Nigeria – Kogi CP
Headlines, Kogi, Nigerian Police, State News Monday, July 4th, 2011POLITICIANS have been accused to be responsible for high rate of robbery in the country.
The allegation was made by the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Mr John Abaka Sanga, during a stakeholders’ meeting, organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) toward 2012 gubernatorial election in the state.
He chided politicians for arming the youth with various weapons, so as to win election.
According to him, after election, such youths were dumped by the said politicians and, as a result of their survival instinct, they would use the weapons acquired to rob innocent people in the society.
The police boss said it became difficult for law enforcement agencies to retrieve the weapons from them, as the politicians always resisted any move to arrest them.
Mr Sanga stressed that until politicians stopped arming the youth with dangerous weapons for any election, the country would not be crime-free.
He called on politicians in the country to think about the future of the youth and stop using them for their own personal selfish agenda, noting that since they were not ready to arm their own wards or children as thugs, they should desist from using other peoples’ children as political thugs.
The police boss assured the people of the state that his command was fully ready to curb crime in the state, adding that the Ajaokuta-Lokoja road was under control for motorists to ply at any time.
