Elections 2011 Wednesday, April 20th, 2011The Coalition of 45 registered political parties on Wednesday hailed the victory of President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in last Saturday’s election and called on his co-contestants to put the outcome of the poll behind them and join the winner in moving the nation forward.
Addressing newsmen in Abuja at a world press conference, the spokesman of the group, Mallam Yusuf Baba, who is also the national chairman of the Advance Congress of Democrats urged Nigerians to remain calm and allow peace to reign so that the president -elect would be able to execute his programmes aimed at transforming Nigeria to an enviable status before the international community.
The 45 political parties had earlier adopted President Jonathan as their Presidential candidate before the presidential poll, describing him as a symbol of unity for Nigeria.
According to the coalition, “President Jonathan carried not just the PDP flag but the flags of all the members of the coalition into the presidential election. We are very proud that we had the prescience and wisdom to subsume our individual interests under the banner of the victor. We were never in any doubt that he was the best candidate in the race. The decisive nature of his victory shows his general acceptability.”
The coalition, while congratulating President Jonathan and his deputy, Namadi Sambo, over their deserved victory at the poll, prayed the almighty God to give the duo the grace, courage, strength and the wisdom to transform Nigeria from a land of pervasive poverty to one of mass prosperity.wp_posts
