Press Release: Nigerians home and abroad must reject political jargon of politicians with no realistic programme in 2019

NIGERIANS HOME AND ABROAD MUST REJECT POLITICAL JARGONS OF POLITICIANS WITH NO REALISTIC PROGRAMME IN 2019

Within only 72 days to Nigeria General Election schedule to commence on Saturday, 16 February 2019, Africa Security Forum (UK) a membership-based organisation in the United Kingdom on security professionals, practitioners and human right activists are calling on Nigerians both home and abroad to ‘reject the political jargons of politicians with no realistic programme in 2019’

In a press release made available to the media from their London based, Africa Security Forum said:

With millions of Nigerians encouraged to vote in the next coming election from the 16^th of February 2019 in 120,000 polling units; it is time for Nigerians to stand up and say to politicians across the nation ‘We Deserve Better” articulation of policies and programmes proposed for the next four years.

Africa Security Forum is concern that the fundamental issue concerning the nation which is national security and insecurity engulfing the nation with over 22 states of the 36 states of the federation confronting one security challenges or the other; yet lip-service is attributed to the issue of national security by the 90 plus political parties contesting the General Election of 2019.

“We are concern that majority of the political parties have produced mushroom manifesto on matters on national security with no well mapped out ideas linked to former budget costing and Nigerians are not challenges this error now”

Africa Security Forum is sadden that Boko Haram and other associated insurgency groups destabilising our territorial integrity are given free access through criminal negligence and political recklessness because we are ruled by mostly ‘broken politicians’ with no political patriotism. Nigeria institutions are so weak that they are not confidence enough to challenges erroneous political statement in the public domain thus allowing fake news and malicious narratives to spread their ‘wild fire’ without check

With 72 hours to the 2019 General Election, the issue of the Chibok Girls, Leah Sharibu and others in the shackles of terrorists have been slept under the carpet with no-one challenging the appropriate authorities to be accountable to the people about the financial cost of the task to date and the success perimeters. The real victims of Boko Haram insurgency who have lost limbs and physically injured for life are left wandering the streets of our nation begging for their livelihood whilst our politicians embark on ‘cheap media publicity photo-shot’ to donate materials to individuals who their respective State Assemblies have allocated budget to the same items the politicians are claiming they are distributing food items etc too….

Majority of the political parties have not only provided an insufficient security manifesto; but they have gone further to provide security promises which under proper public scrutiny could be inferred to border closely to ‘political fraud’ because it has not been subjected to costed budgetary analysis.

The issue of security vote, extra-judicial killing, unlawful detention and a whole host of other security issues seems to be kept unwrap and that is not acceptable in a 21^st Century democratic dispensation.

Nigerians must start to ask question and remind our politicians that the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (Part 2, Section 14(2)b ) places an obligation on our leaders to ensure our safety:

14. (1) The Federal Republic of Nigeria shall be a State based on the principles of democracy and social justice.

(2) It is hereby, accordingly, declared that:

(a) sovereignty belongs to the people of Nigeria from whom government through this Constitution derives all its powers and authority;

(b) the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government: and

(c) the participation by the people in their government shall be ensured in accordance with the provisions of this Constitution.

Nigeria world ranking on safety and security is nothing to write home about and nothing is being done to correct it instead security leaders are getting praised when they should be dismissed from their role as incompetent. Nigeria Police is ranked the worst in Africa and yet no political party has any plan in the next 5 years to make the Police Force is best in West Africa or Africa.

Nigeria military which was highly respected for their contribution to global peace and safety in the West-Africa region is now the laughing stock of the world with her soldier running away from untrained bandit called ‘Boko Haram’ like a dog with their tail between their legs because they are led by ‘Plastic’ Generals that should be in their retirement but retained by a Commander-in-Chief who seems to have missed the plot or suffering from ‘Post Coup Traumatic Stress’

Many Nigerians in the Diaspora on the streets of London, New York, Toronto, Dubai to mention but a few are unhappy with the state of the nation and it is time for our ‘Political Leadership’ to be told the home truth; if you can’t do better than a 10 year primary school pupil then return to your hometown and let Nigerians with love of the nation take up the task of ‘Making Nigeria Great Again’

With 72 days to go, Nigerian electorates must ask our political and security leaders to provide serious response and stop mocking Nigerians with their fanfare campaign which is all about their dancing steps rather than pronouncement of serious policy ideas for the people

The President of Africa Security Forum, Temitope Olodo, said in London if the political parties do not change their approach and start talking about things that would make Nigeria great again then his organisation would commence a line by line scrutiny of their security manifesto/plans and reveals the scandals embedded it to prove that Nigerians are mostly led by Zombie Politicians with no political foresight or national interest of the nation at heart
