Primaries: Akunyili begs losers, sues for peace
Anambra, Elections 2011, State News Monday, January 31st, 2011FOLLOWING what was described as an in-house fence mending, most of the aspirants to elective positions who failed to make it during the recent primaries of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in Anambra State, yesterday, decided to support those who won the party’s tickets in the interest of peace and harmony within the party.
At a meeting convened by the former Minister of Information and Communications, Professor Dora Akunyili, in Awka, the aspirants said as loyal party men and women, it would be better to support their party than to sabotage those who won.
In fact, former House of Representatives member, Chief George Ozodinobi, and Chief Emma Nweke, who vied for the same APGA ticket with Akunyili, agreed to campaign for her.
Addressing the people, the former minister urged others to do the same, adding that it would serve them better to support their fellow party men and women who won so as to build a stronger party everybody would be proud of.
She said: “If the losers decide to sabotage those who defeated them at the primaries and those people fail to win the election, it would be a double failure for such people,” she said.
Before the meeting, Akunyili had visited the traditional ruler of Awka, Obi Gibson Nwosu, where she explained that her decision to go to the senate was to contribute in developing Anambra State.
“I am not going to the senate because of money. If money is my headache, I would have made it in NAFDAC from the kind of advice they were giving me there.
“They were telling me that I could seize 10 containers of fake drugs and declare that only two were seized, while the owners of the other eight would pay me millions of naira to have them circulated in the market, but I knew that was a criminal thing to do,” she said.
