Security beefed up in NASS as Reps resume today
House, Legislature, Senate Monday, June 27th, 2011AHEAD of today’s resumption of senators and members of the House of Representatives, after about three weeks break, security network at the National Assembly (NASS) has been beefed up.
The development resulted in long queues of cars at the entrance of the National Assembly, which almost paralysed the activities at centre.
As part of the security measures introduced by the National Assembly management, the only anti-bomb police official checking incoming vehicles to the complex was asked to move from the second gate to the main entrance with his anti-bomb detector device.
This was, however, greeted by calls from NASS staff, journalists and visitors, who spent close to two hours on queue.
They asked the management to get more anti-bomb devices, so as to ensure that the screening was done by two or more anti-bomb officers.
The lawmakers had, on the second day after election of their leaders, adjourned sitting, to enable NASS management to finish work on their office and accommodation.
The long queues experienced by callers to the National Assembly saw some of them mano-euvring their way out, while those who got hint of long queues had to park their cars at parks close to Federal Secretariat.
Meanwhile, in the event of state of insecurity in the country, with the recent bombing at the Force headquarters in Abuja, NASS management has put in place security measures to avert any security lapse that may threaten the security of the complex.
