Stop Jonathan’s Recklessness Now, TMG Tells NASS

As the rage over the removal of fuel subsidy continues to gather momentum, the Transition Monitoring Group (TMG) has called on the National Assembly to stop with immediate effect what it called the ‘reckless and suicidal mission’ of  the President Goodluck Jonathan-led executive.

TMG said that the executive should not be allowed to think that it had more power over the legislature who “we all voted for to represent our interest and carry oversight on executive recklessness.”

In a release made available to LEADERSHIP yesterday, the chairman of TMG, Mashood Erubami, said the legislature represented the key elective institution of government from where the genuine interests of the citizenry are voiced.

“The people voted for only the President and his Vice and not all the wicked yes men and women occupying the corridors of power with him.

“The legislature should urgently assume its historical role and use its constitutional power to arrest and halt the avoidable development of a socio – political crisis which when started may be difficult to abate and the end of which nobody can predict,” he said.

TMG added that the President has demonstrated insensitivity and irresponsibility by this removal at a time when the nation was mourning the death of hundreds of Nigerians killed in multiple bombings across the country.

“The removal is a daring challenge to the power of the people whom history has shown to have always won all social wars against the government. The recent Egypt and Libya experiences should be lesson for the wise.”

Meanwhile, LEADERSHIP gathered that members of the Senate opposed to the removal of fuel subsidy are set to engage the executive over the matter.
