Super Eagles defeat Ghana 2-1 in a thriller, qualify for finals

Samson Siasia notched up his sixth win on the bounce, and goal machine Ekigho Ehiosun racked up his fourth and fifth international goals in five games as Nigeria edged Ghana 2-1 in extra-time of a frenetic WAFU Cup semifinal on Thursday.
Ghana went in front midway through the nsecond half when two Ghana forwards sprung the Nigeria line, and Gege Soriola clambered all over the forward.
The referee correctly awarded the penalty, but incorrectly failed to so much as to book the defender, who was on a yellow and really should have seen a straight red.
But Ehiosun found the equalizer with just minutes left on the clock, and took advantage of substitute Victor Ezeji’s visionary pass to rifle home the winner with two minutes of extra time left.
This was expected to be the Final, but Ghana messed up the script by finishing second behind Togo in group A of the tournament, setting up a tasty clash with their regional neighbors.
Everyone on both sides of this West African divide expected a difficult game, and they were not disappointed.
Nigeria took the game to Ghana, but it was the visitors who wrested control early on, and turned the tables.
