UAE grants 3-yr visa to 170 ex-militants
Headlines, Niger Delta Friday, November 25th, 2011Federal Government has secured a three-year visa and work permit for no fewer than 170 ex-militants of the Niger Delta region from the government of United Arab Emirates, UAE.
The work permit is to enable the beneficiaries secure jobs in Dubai after completing their six months training in crane operations, pipeline welding, electrical installations and health safety and environment at the International Centre for Non-Violence and Peace Development in Dubai.
This set of ex-militants going to Dubai is exclusive of another set of 50 ex-militants who also left the country yesterday for six months vocational training in crane operations at Ghana Port and Harbour Authority, bringing to 220 the number of ex-Niger Delta militants who travelled out of the country, yesterday.
Speaking at the pre-departure briefing, Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Matters, Mr. Kingsley Kuku, explained that this was the first time any country in the world will be granting three years employment visa to youths under the post-amnesty programme of the Federal Government.
Kuku, who noted that the amnesty programme would wind up around 2015, asked the ex-militants to take full advantage of the programme while it lasts.
He said a fresh batch of delegates billed for offshore vocational and educational training would be provided with a laptop to enhance their learning and skills acquisition.
