■ Renames Law Complex after Graham Douglas

THE Rivers State Governor and visitor to the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Nyesom Wike, has donated the sum of N1 billion for the reconstruction of the two abandoned Facul­ties of Management and En­vironmental Sciences.

The governor also re­named the Faculty of Law Complex after the first indig­enous Attorney-General of Nigeria, Dr. Nabo Graham- Douglas.

Governor Wike stated this yesterday at the 28th convo­cation ceremony of the state university in Port Harcourt, and pledged his administra­tion’s commitment to sup­port the growth of the insti­tution. “As a government, be assured that we will not fail in the commitment to sup­port the university,” Wike told the ecstatic audience.

He also laid the founda­tion stone of the College of Medical Sciences to further buttress the commitment of the state government to­wards quality education.

In an address, the Acting Vice Chancellor of the uni­versity, Prof. Blessing Didia, noted that the new vision of the institution was to estab­lish an entrepreneurial uni­versity through technology.

“Our vision as an admin­istration is anchored on cre­ating an entrepreneurial uni­versity that will consolidate on the gains so far,” he said.

Prof. Didia stressed that his administration was poised to run the university on the ba­sis of global best practices in order to reposition the insti­tution for national relevance and global competitiveness.

He commended Gover­nor Wike for his support to the institution and the op­portunity to serve the state, disclosing that measures had been taken to reverse the de­plorable condition of the in­stitution.

The vice-chancellor con­gratulated the new graduates and urged them to be good ambassadors. “I advise you to go into the world with the same zeal and be good am­bassadors of the university in whatever vocation you may find yourself,” he admon­ished.

A total number of 5,067 graduates were awarded first degrees, postgraduate diplo­mas, masters and doctorate degrees.
