More complaints about DDC machines
Elections 2011 Thursday, January 27th, 2011MORE complaints over inadequate number of Direct Data Capture (DDC) machines, on Wednesday, trailed the ongoing voter registration in the Lagos metropolis, as it entered the 11th day.
However, our correspondent observed that some centres had devised means of easing public tension by granting concession to senior citizens, who could hardly cope with the rigours of waiting for hours on the queue.
Elsewhere such as Isheri-Osun, a minimum of seven elders enjoyed the preference treatment to register at a stretch.
But to enhance their chances in other places like Ofada, near Ibafo, on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, many of the elders sent their young ones to the only centre in the area as early as 5.00 a.m to stand in for them on the queue until a more convenient time for them to be at the registration centre.
Pregnant women and nursing mothers were also given concession at Ofada, where many of the people were agitated by the slow pace of work.
It was gathered that leaders from the community were mounting pressure on INEC officials to increase the number of DDC machines allocated to the area to at least 10 because of the rising number of eligible persons at the only registration centre.
